Former Wentzville Mayor Throws Hat in the Ring for Ward 3 Seat

Darrel Lackey served as Wentzville's mayor from 1992 to 1996.

The candidates for the April 2 municipal election are set, and Wentzville's Ward 3 has three candidates vying for alderman: Michael Hays, Linda L. Wright, and Darrel Lackey. Michael Hays, the incumbent, was appointed to the seat by Mayor Nick Guccione. The seat was left vacant after Guccione became mayor last year. Hays filed his candidacy in December. Darrel Lackey served as an alderman for Ward 2 from 1987 to 1992. In 1992 he was elected to Mayor and served two two-year terms. Then, from 2002 to 2006, he was alderman for Ward 3, where he has again filed for candidacy. Bill Schuette, Nick Guccione, Leon Tow and Darrel Lackey all hope to celebrate Tuesday night as Wentzville's next mayor.

Four candidates will be on the Tuesday's ballot for Wentzville mayor: Bill Schuette, Nick Guccione, Leon Tow and Darrel Lackey. All four have served as Wentzville aldermen. Four Candidates Vye for Wentzville Mayor

Hays withdraws from the Ward 3 race in the April 3 election.

Another candidate has thrown his hat into the ring for Wentzville’s mayoral race. Darrel Lackey filed before the deadline Tuesday to become the fourth candidate in the April 3 election. He will run against former alderman Bill Schuette, Ward 3 Alderman Nick Guccione and Ward 1 Alderman Leon Tow, who also is board president. For the first time, the mayor will serve a four-year term. Previously, the position was a two-year term. Michael Hays also withdrew from the Ward 3 alderman race. His withdrawal puts incumbent Rick Stokes at the top position on the ballot. Stokes is challenged by Rodney E. (Rod) Stratman and Curtis T. Davis. The city’s ballot will not be certified until Tuesday. Assuming all other candidates are certified, the ballot …
