Is it too much for the city to run 19 special events, including Wabash Days, Holiday Night Lights, Eggstravaganza, Halloween Happenings, parades, movies and concerts in the parks?
At Wednesday's Wentzville Board of Aldermen work session, the board continued a discussion first brought up at the Feb. 6 meeting: the future of the city's special events. She suggested that such a group could organize, establish committees and recruit volunteers, rather than have the city's parks department providing all the work force and labor. City Administrator Mike McDowell, in his first appearance at a board of aldermen meeting, said that, depending on the scope of an event, finding a private group with the ability to pull off an event without substantial …

Parks volunteer Bob Burke was on his own Friday in the parks conference room in Progress Park, just him and several boxes of multi-colored Easter eggs. He stuffed each egg with a Tootsie Roll. Later, he would methodically count them. This is his routine for three days a week, from 6:45 to 11 a.m. Usually, he has a group of up to four other volunteers with him, he said. Burke even has a box of empty eggs counted out in case other parks volunteers stop by to work. “The ladies think they love me when I do that for them,” Burke said. Their goal is 20,000 Easter eggs for the March 31 Easter Eggstravanganza put on by Wentzville’s Parks Department in Rotary Park. Burke is the most regular volunteer and said he probably stuffs 8,000 to 9,000 of …

With the current number of residents in Wentzville that calculates to less than $3 per resident...yes that is right, less than $3 per resident. Aren't we worth $3. Obviously the board of alderman understand the need for the residents to …   more ›
