The 2012 softball season is in the books, but it's OK to take a look back. Yes, it's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. Except this week has a twist. Instead of looking at the last week, we're looking at the entire season. This week we head to the softball field. Tell us in the poll below: Who was the top GAC softball player in 2012? For the second straight week, Hotl's Tray Mitchell wins the fan's choice for top football player.
Tray Mitchell must have a fan club. Mitchell, a star for the Holt Indians, won the Patch Athlete of the Week award for his exploits in Week 7. What did he do for an encore? He won again, becoming a back-to-back champ after once again dominating on the football field. Let's see how the voting went down. Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 8? Mitchell was at it again on Friday night. The Holt running back paced the Indians against Zumwalt South. In the Indians 16-13 win, Mitchell picked up both touchdowns, one from 9-yards out and one from 58-yards away. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 8? Shane Barrett—Fort Zumwalt East: Fort Zumwalt East pulled out a one-point win against Washington Friday night. A key player for the Lions? Sophomore quarterback Shane Barrett. Once again the dual-threat QB got things done through the air and on the ground. He ran the ball 22 times for 115 yards (5.2 yards per carry). Throwing the ball, he was 16-for-24 for 171 yards and four scores against just one interception. Holt's Tray Mitchell is a near unanimous choice for the best football player form Week 7.
In a week of big-game performances, Holt's Tray Mitchell stood out. He racked up a bunch of yards on the ground, three touchdowns and one Patch Athlete of the Week award. Let's go to the results. Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 7? Mitchell carried the load for Holt in Saturday's win against Fort Zumwalt East. In an upset, the Indians knocked off the Lions 35-13 and Mitchell's ground game was a huge reason for the win. Carrying the ball 17 times, Mitchell racked up a staggering 245 yards—an impressive 14.4-yard per attempt. He picked up two long touchdowns—one from 37 yards out and the other from 49 yards. Tell us in the poll below: Which St. Charles County football player had the best Week 7? Teddy Williamson—Fort Zumwalt West: Teddy Williamson had no problem finding the endzone on Friday night. In Zumwalt West's win against Howell Central, Williamson helped power the Jaguars' offense with four scores. He ran the ball 20 times in the contest and racked up 201 yards. Four of his runs went for scores—a 4-yard run in the first, a 5-yard run in the second and a pair of long runs in the third. The first was a 60-yard score; the second was a score from 80-yards out. Fort Zumwalt East's Nikki Taylor's start to the season did not go unnoticed. The Tigers' slugger—who leads the team in most offensive categories—won the Patch St. Charles County Athlete of the Week award. Here's how the voting broke down: Which St. Charles County softball player has had the best start to the 2012 season? Taylor has been hitting just about everything this season for the Fort Zumwalt East Lions. Taylor leads the Lions in several offensive categories like batting average (.476), homers (three), RBIs (11) and steals (two). Fort Zumwalt South's Taylor Wade wins fan's choice award.
Taylor Wade is not just a goal scorer. Sure the Zumwalt South star can score—she scored 17 goals this season—but she can also be a playmaker. She led the GAC with 19 assists and was second in the conference in total points. Her offensive output was enough to garner the attention of fans across the GAC. Wade's showing was good enough to get her the crown of Patch's fan's choice poll for GAC soccer player of the year. All across St. Charles County fans got to witness great performances from girls soccer players. Here's what we're looking for: Who is the top GAC girls soccer player for the 2012 season? Here are the nominees: Lydia Meeks—St. Charles High School: The Pirates' Lydia Meeks was a top-5 offensive threat in the GAC North this season. The St. Charles High School student finished in the top-5 in points, goals and assists. Meeks netted 14 goals and picked up 12 helpers for the Pirates. Her 40 points were fifth in the conference, but her goals and assists both put her in a tie for fourth. She also added two game-winning goals for St. Charles. Duchesne's Sam Chambers win the fan's choice for GAC baseball player of the year for 2012.
Sam Chambers is used to running away with things. The Duchesne baseball star was among the top-10 players in the GAC North with his seven steals. This week, in our fan's choice poll for GAC baseball player of the year, Chambers ran away with the title. The Pioneer picked up 79 percent of the vote to win the fan-voted crown. Here's how the voting broke down : Who is the top GAC Baseball player for the 2012 season? Chambers was part of a potent Duchesne offense. Chambers sparked the Pioneers by getting on base early and often. He finished the season with a .423—tied for third in the GAC North behind two of his teammates.
