Timberland Dancer Moves to Semi-Final Round of Teen Talent Competition

Nalini Jones is competing with Melvin Williams, a singer from Riverview Gardens.

Nalini Jones, 16, a dancer from Timberland High School, has moved on to the semi-final round of the 3rd Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition.  This showcase of talented teen performers was first produced at the Fox Theatre in 1985 and 1986. In 2011, it was given new life by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation. The competition spotlights singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and circus arts performers. Jones is performing with Melvin "Melle MoRell" Williams, a singer from Riverview Gardens. The pair's performance will include singing, dancing and acting. "It's very contemporary," Jones said of her dancing, "It combines lyrical with hip-hop." The Timberland sophomore has been dancing since she was four years old. She is …

Titanic Last Meals Commemorate Centennial

Eat like a Rockefeller, or at least John Jacob Astor, one of the passengers aboard the Titanic, whose centennial will be commemorated with lavish dinners and parties on the anniversary of the ship's sinking, April 15.

Last meals are seldom celebrated, but this month the documented meals served the infamous day the Titanic sank will again be cooked and presented throughout the Patch community.  Countless home “sinking parties” are being planned. Among those commemorating the event are the chefs at the Fox Theatre and Butler's Pantry, who are authentically reproducing the last dinner and brunch served to first class passengers on April 14, 1912, the day before the Titanic sank.  These two historically reproduced foodie events are the jewels of the St Louis Titanic Centennial, a three-day event that kicks off at the History Museum on Friday. Young Dancers Will Always Remember Nutcracker Performance

The Fox Theater's production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker wrapped up on Sunday and three young Lake Saint Louis dancers are proud to have been a part of it, especially since they shared the stage with Chicago's acclaimed Joffrey Ballet. Anna Kathleen Lebold, 11, portrayed a toy soldier while Kennedy Cooper, 11, was a cavalry mouse. The youngest of the trio, Megan Maetten, 9, played a Chinese doll. All three are students at area dance studios, and Anna studies at the Academy of Dance in Lake Saint Louis. The Nutcracker is the story of a young Victorian-era girl, Clara, who is given a nutcracker at a Christmas party. The nutcracker comes alive and leads her into a fantasy world of sugarplum fairies, gingerbread soldiers and a mouse king. …
