Fort Zumwalt East's Nikki Taylor's start to the season did not go unnoticed. The Tigers' slugger—who leads the team in most offensive categories—won the Patch St. Charles County Athlete of the Week award. Here's how the voting broke down: Which St. Charles County softball player has had the best start to the 2012 season? Taylor has been hitting just about everything this season for the Fort Zumwalt East Lions. Taylor leads the Lions in several offensive categories like batting average (.476), homers (three), RBIs (11) and steals (two). She has 10 hits on the year, six for extra bases—two doubles, a triple and three home runs. The Cougars' Brett Collins is the fan choice for top football player from Week 1 of the high school season.
The wins just keep coming for Brett Collins and the Lutheran Cougars. After helping his team snap an 18-game losing streak in Week 1 of the 2012 high school football season, Lutheran quarterback Brett Collins was nominated for the Patch St. Charles County Athlete of the Week. Collins, with 76 percent of the vote, came out on top. Here's how the voting broke down: Who was the top football player from Week 1 of the 2012 season? Collins had a hand in all four touchdowns for the Cougars. As the quarterback, Collins was 12-for-21 for 209 yards and three touchdowns against no interceptions. It's another high school sports season, which means the return of our weekly St. Charles County Athlete of the Week poll. This week we turn our attention to the football filed. Tell us in the poll below: Who was the St. Charles County player of the week for the first week of the 2012 football season? Here are the nominees: Brett Collins—Lutheran High School: For the first time since Sept. 3, 2010, the Lutheran Cougars picked up a win. Snapping an 18-game losing skid that spanned all of last season, the Cougars topped Principia 27-21 on the opening night of the 2012 season. A key piece in the win? Quarterback Brett Collins. Francis Howell Central's Travis Vaught wins the "Patch" Athlete of the Week Award.
Travis Vaught had a big week on the baseball diamond for the Howell Central Spartans last week. He did even better in the Athlete of the Week voting. Vaught trounced the field in the St. Charles County Patch Athlete of the Week poll. Out of the nearly 400 votes cast, Vaught picked up a whopping 96 percent to easily win the award. Here's how the voting went down. Who was the St. Charles County baseball player of the week beginning on April 23? Total votes: 391 -- Vaught did it all last week for the Spartans. Another week is in the books, which means it's time for another chance to find St. Charles County's Athlete of the Week. This week, we turn our attention to the baseball diamond. Here are the nominees for the St. Charles County baseball player of the week for the week of April 23: Travis Vaught—Francis Howell Central: The Spartans Travis Vaught did it all last week. Vaught opened the week on April 24 with a stat-filling performance. In Howell Central's 8-3 win, Vaught was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Bridget and Shannon Stewart win the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week after a dominating showing on the soccer field.
The Stewart sisters can't be stopped. Fort Zumwalt South's Bridget and Shannon Stewart have been terrorizing goalies across St. Charles County this season to help the Bulldogs win some games. However, that's not the only thing the duo has been winning. With an impressive 73 percent of the vote, Bridget and Shannon became the first co-winners of the St. Charles County Patch Athlete of the Week. The Stewarts defeated the field with 2,577 votes. The girls soccer season continues on in St. Charles County and several players had big weeks. Some starred with numerous goals, some just managed to score timely goals. For others it was all about goal prevention. Here are the nominees for the St. Charles County girls soccer player of the week for the week of April 16: Bridget and Shannon Stewart—Fort Zumwalt South: The Stewart sisters from Fort Zumwalt South had quite a productive week for the Bulldogs soccer team. So productive, in fact, that it's impossible to split up Bridget and Shannon. The Bulldogs went 3-0 last week with and scored a total 10 goals. The Stewarts combined for eight of the goals. Shannon had a three-game goal scoring streak and put up four goals (one game winner) …

Rain may have washed away a few baseball games last week, but some action still managed to take place—and what action it was. All across St. Charles County great players played great games on the baseball field. Some did it better than others. Here are the nominees for the baseball player of the week for the week of April 9: Drew Quinones—Fort Zumwalt South: Fort Zumwalt South's Drew Quinones was a tough guy to retire in the Bulldogs' two games last week. Quinones picked up seven hits in nine at-bats for South—a .778 batting average. In a loss to Holt, Quinones went 2-4 with a run scored. The next day, on Tuesday, against St. Charles West, Quinones helped power the Bulldogs past the Warriors. In a 14-13 South win, Quinones was 5-for-5 …

Francis Howell North's Braxton Martinez won the fan choice for Patch's Athlete of the Week.
Braxton Martinez has been punishing pitchers around St. Charles County this season. The Francis Howell North product is a hitting star this season for the Knights and the fans have taken notice. In our Athlete of the Week poll, Martinez was the top vote getter. With 48 of the 74 votes (64 percent), Martinez won the top honors in our fan's choice for best baseball player so far this season. Here's how the voting went down: Total votes: 74 votes Martinez, who will be attending Saint Louis University in the fall, has been tearing things up so far this season for the Knights.
