Ross Detwiler will debut for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic on March 9 against Italy in Phoenix. Team USA's first World Baseball Classic game is scheduled for March 8 at 7 p.m. versus Mexico.
The World Baseball Classic begins March 2 and when it does, a Wentzville-native will be front and center. Holt High School graduate, and Wentzville-native, Ross Detwiler has been named to the United States' roster for the once-every-four-year tournament. According to the World Baseball Classic website, Detwiler will debut for Team USA on March 9 in pool play against Italy in Phoenix. “Any time you can represent your country, especially doing your job, it’s pretty amazing,” Detwiler, who this winter spent a week meeting troops overseas on a USO tour (see video), told the Washington Post. “It’s kind of the last thing to cap off my offseason. Abigail Corbett will be attending Southeast Missouri State University

Abigail Corbett, a junior at Holt High School, has been selected as a KMOX/Southeast Missouri State University Student of Achievement. The KMOX Student of Achievement program began 20 years ago when Hall of Fame broadcaster Jack Buck created the scholarship fund to recognize the positive accomplishments of area students. “It’s really exciting to be recognized for doing what I do, my parents always taught me to do as much as you can in the time you have. Wentzville Holt claims first-place team honors, with St. Charles West, McCluer North, Whitfield, and Ladue rounding out top five.
One of the area's best annual high school wrestling tournaments took over MICDS High School last weekend, as the 47th Annual Eric Lewis Invitational went off with non-stop action featuring many of the best schoolboy grapplers from all over the area. Some of the area's best teams also appeared, with state title contenders St. Charles West, McCluer North, and Whitfield all making strong showings at one of the season's last great tune-up tournaments before districts begin in two weeks. The dominant team of the weekend though, was Wentzville Holt, which had seven wrestlers advance to the finals in their respective weight classes, with five of them winning the individual championship, and a total of 11 of their 14 wrestlers competing at the …

Wentzville Holt High School will host Wentzville's eighth Martin Luther King Day celebration on Mon., Jan. 21, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The keynote speaker for the event is Pastor B.T. Rice of New Horizon Seven Day Christian Church. There will be a presentation of youth scholarship awards and musical presentations from the Timberland High School A Cappella Choir and the Discovery Ridge Elementary Choir. Refreshments will be served afterwards. The event is free and open to the public. Superintendent Dr. Terry Adams offers tips for helping students deal with their fears after the deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
On Monday, Wentzville School District Superintendent Dr. Terry Adams sent a second letter to parents in the wake of the Newtown/Sandy Hook school shootings. Adams assured parents that all schools in the district have security cameras and that all entrances are locked during the day and entrance is only allowed through main offices. Teachers and staff are trained in emergency response procedures and there are crisis plans in place. School also hold intruder drills. Adams also states that police believe the rumors about violence at Holt High School during finals week are not credible. Rumors about finals-week violence have circulated in past years too. KSDK Channel 5 reported Friday night that Wentzville School District Superintendent Dr. Terry Adams sent a note to district parents Friday about an unsubstantiated rumor of a shooting threat at Holt High School on Dec. 21. Given the tragic events in Connecticut today, Holt High School administrators and District officials would like to make you aware of the rumors circulating about a threat involving a student with a gun coming to school on Friday, December 21. We want to let parents and students know that no credible threat has been received by school officials, but a thorough investigation is being conducted by District administrators and local law enforcement. Clayton Ream, wrestling Holt High School senior Clayton Ream has committed to wrestle for the Bisons of North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. With his mother Pattie and father Patrick by his side, Clay signed his National Letter of Intent at Holt High School on November 14th. Clay is the 2012 USAW 145 lb. Junior National Champion and finished 2nd this year at the Missouri State Class 4 Competition. He competed for the Indians at the varsity level for three years (two years as Captain) earning three GAC Conference championships and placed at the state level all three years. Well this time you printed the whole letter so now I can see what it says. I have yet to recieve any such letter either the first time or this time and I am a parent. Don't know what fantasy world Dr. Adams is living in, but I never got anything either via email or any other method. Communication seems to be a consistent problem with the Wentzville School District.   more ›
