Wentzville firefighters think lightning from a Saturday evening storm caused a house fire.
Firefighters suspect a lightning strike is to blame for a fire in Wentzville Saturday night. A heavy storm brought welcome relief to parched farm fields and browning lawn Saturday. But it brought intense lightning that is being blamed for several damaging fires, Fox2 News reports.
Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A teenage girl was found dead in her bed by New Melle firefighters battling a blaze that destoyed a home on the 1500 block of Meinershagen Road Saturday afternoon. The girl is being identified by Fox 2 News as 19-year-old Moria Ryan, who was adopted by her family at 6 weeks old after being the victim of severe child abuse as an infant. The fire started shortly after noon, according to KSDK. The home is located about seven miles southwest of Wentzville. Four more people were in the home at the time of the fire, KSDK reported, and escaped without serious injury. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. For more on this story, CLICK HERE.
