What better place to be on a steamy Fourth of July than on the beach at Jefferson Point?
The Lake Saint Louis Water Ski Club held their annual Fourth of July Ski Show on Wednesday. A huge crowd watched from under a garden of pop-up tents as skiers from beginning knee-boarders to elegant swivel skiers to a signature three-tiered pyramid team performed in the waters off Jefferson Point. The Ski Club is associated with the Lake Saint Louis Community Association. The club fields a competitive ski team called the Arch Rivals.

Good morning, Lake Saint Louis! After days and days of wind, with gusts that shook the rafters and blew law furniture all over the county, we wake up this morning to—a deep freeze. Writing that now, the word looks all wrong. Hmmm, I thought. A deep freezer? I thought about the origins of the word in my own personal lexography. A deep freeze was our family word for the top-opening chest freezers where we'd store paper-wrapped cuts of beef and the pr evious summer's berry crop, as well as whatever frozen item the grocery store was featuring. And yes, for younger readers, we did have frozen pizza back in those days. My husband used to laugh at me for saying, "it's spitting snow" or "not a drop of mail." It makes me wonder what local or family…

Even though blustery winds were kicking up whitecaps on the lake, some brave skiers kept the New Year's Day tradition alive.
"My face didn't even get wet," Tom Frikovic said as a friend put a towel around his shoulders. Tom and his son Tim were the first water skiers on Lake Saint Louis in 2012. Frikovic commented that it wasn't bad going east, but "as soon as you turned around, oh baby! You got the splash from the boat and everything." The Lake Saint Louis Water Ski Club has made an informal tradition of skiing on the first day of each year. This year's event at Windjammer Pointe got off to a delayed start when club members discovered that high winds the last few days had damaged a dock and pushed it over into the boat ramp A rope secured around the wayward dock quicky pulled it out of the way, and the ski boat was ready for business. The Water Ski Club gave two shows over the holiday weekend.
Despite Sunday's heat and Monday's showers, the Lake Saint Louis Water Ski Club gave two great performances with more than 200 skiers participating.

The ski club offers two shows free to the public over the holiday weekend.
The Lake Saint Louis Water Ski Club will hold its Fourth of July shows on Make sure to bring your own lawn chairs or blanket for seating. The show can be up to two hours long, so wearing sunblock or bringing something for shade is a must. Admission to the show is free. The shows will be off of Jefferson Point. You can see the area from Interstate 64 (Highway 40/61), and it's accessible from Civic Center Drive (exit at Lake Saint Louis Boulevard from I-64).
