Cute Baby Ducks Delight Shoppers at Rural King

Most Rural King shoppers couldn't pass by the pen of baby ducks without stopping to pet a downy duckling.

Last weekend's delightful spring weather brought out the shoppers to Wentzville's Rural King store. Outside, customers were perusing hanging flower baskets and bedding plants; inside, dog owners took advantage of a vaccination clinic. And of course, there were ducklings. Jammer Joint Motorcycles Comes Home to Wentzville

Jammer Joint Motorcycles, a motorcycle repair and customizing shop that started out in Wentzville in 1970, is back in business along West Pearce Boulevard. And one of its showroom bikes is generating lots of buzz.

For Jammer Joint Motorcycles and Leon Rogers, it's a story about coming home. Rogers was one of the owners of the motorcycle shop when the business originally opened in Wentzville in 1970. The shop closed down in 1981. In 2006, Rogers decided to bring the business back, but the location on West Pearce in Wentzville wasn't big enough to expand the business and it moved to Wright City. Jammer Joint came home to Wentzville this year, opening in March on West Pearce Boulevard. The shop does motorcycle repairs, rebuilds and customization. Mike Czerniewski, who joined the team when the business was still in Wright City, said the shop gives motorcycle enthusiasts in Wentzville—and St. Charles County—a unique experience. Czerniewski pointed to a …

Pictures look great! I'm not really a motorcycle guy but this looks like a cool place. Are there a lot of custom motorcycle shops in the area? If so, I haven't seen them.   more ›

What Should Go Here? Former 'Clutch N Clutter' in Wentzville's Village Center

Patch highlights a vacant commercial space and asks: What business would you like to see move into this area?

We want Wentzville Patch to be a place where you can not only find out what's going on around town, but a place where you can share your thoughts and ideas with neighbors. From time to time, we like to highlight a vacant commercial space and ask what you would like to see move into this area. If you know of an area you'd like to see highlighted, tell us in the comments. This week, we are taking a look at a location that, most recently, was Clutch N Clutter resale shop and is now vacant. The building is in Village Center, Wentzville's historic downtown area. Although the building doesn't appear to be historic, let's brainstorm some businesses that fit in with the character of the area and can help the revitalization of Wentzville's downtown…

What Should Go Here? Former 'Kicker's' Bar

This week, we are taking a look at a location that, most recently, was Kicker's Bar and Grill. Before that it was Duke's and Palomino Nights. Going even farther back, it was a barbecue restaurant, and before that—maybe its original incarnation—it was, I believe, a Ponderosa restaurant. Surely some sort of business could find success here. A new gun shop and shooting range …

*A restaurant business can be put on a highway sign along with other restaurants before the exit. Motorists will then know what food is available. I'm not sure if there is a fee for that. *I would say a restaurant is a destination. I guess it may depend on the companies determinating if it is profitable to build in any area. *I don't think doubling back is a deterrent to a business. I do not find…   more ›

What's the Best Selling Vehicle at Poage Chevy?

No, it's not a Corvette or a Camaro. And the answer probably won't surprise you.

Poage Chevrolet took over operations at the old Cox & Cohea Chevy dealership in December of 2012, but the family isn't new to the business. The Poage family also owns and operates dealerships in Hannibal, Quincy, IL and Decatur, IL. "We're still family-owned and family-run," said Jason Poage, the owner of Wentzville's Poage Chevy. Poage said that the company's motto is "Service before, during and after the sale." "I can sell anybody a car the first time," he said. "But our service department will sell the second car for us." Poage has been running the dealership for just three months, but some trends have already surfaced. Poage was quick with a response when Patch asked, "What's the best selling vehicle here?" "V-8 Chevy pickups," Poage …

Fritz's Opens for 2013 Season, Celebrates 30 Years in Business

The frozen custard franchise will be thanking its customers throughout the year.

When Fritz's Frozen Custard opens for the 2013 season on March 11, it will mark the beginning of a special year for the popular frozen custard franchise. The family-owned business celebrates 30 years in business this year. “We’ve been so fortunate to start our business from scratch and last,” Debbie Fritz, co-owner and co-founder of Fritz’s Frozen Custard, said. The family business has remained a family affair through a number of ways. The store has shops in St. Peters, O’Fallon, Florissant and West County, with all except the West County store being family-owned. In addition, some of the concrete favorites, such as Adam’s Apple, Corey-O and Bryan’s Hawaiian are named for Debbie and Terry Fritz’s sons. Last year, the family released the …

Wentzville Business Owners Talk about Sign Issues at Board Work Session

The issue came up when Liberty Tax Service was told that their Liberty Statue character would not be allowed to wave at cars on Wentzville Parkway.

Human signs, balloons, banners—these and other types of temporary advertising tools were a topic of discussion at Wednesday night's Wentzville Board of Aldermen meeting. The topic had come up at a previous meeting when the owner of Liberty Tax Service told the board that his Liberty Statue character would still wave at cars along Wentzville Boulevard even after he was told that it was not allowed. Liberty now carries signs such as "Give me Liberty or Give me Death" and is allowed as a political statement. Several local business owners and managers attended the meeting to add their own opinions and experiences. Tony Thieman, owner of Thieman Carpet, J&R Barber Shop and several other Wentzville businesses, was concerned about the safety …

Mrs. B's County Kitchen Now Open on Luetkenhaus Boulevard

Mrs. B's offers home cooking with daily specials.

Chad Brown's mother ran a restaurant in Potosi for 15 years, so maybe it wasn't such a stretch when the Cottleville police officer decided to try his hand at the business. Chad and his wife Jennifer, who live in Cottleville, opened Mrs. B's Country Kitchen at 403 Luetkenhaus Boulevard in Wentzville just before Christmas. The restaurant serves their full menu all day, so if you're someone who loves an omelet for lunch (as I do!) you can get it. (And I did, the day I visted Mrs. B's—a HUGE and very tasty four-egg omelet.) Hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. B's is closed on Mondays. "On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we're pretty busy," Jennifer said. For breakfast, the Browns offer eggs, bacon…
