The Cappies, short for the Critics and Awards Program, trains area students and aspiring critics nationwide by having them attend peer performances at other schools. Students then write reviews of the performances, have their worked critiqued and published in local news outlets. The year builds up to a large, critics’ choice awards ceremony in which the students vote on various aspects of local theater production and performance. The St. Louis Cappies is one of the largest chapters in Missouri and is currently in its sixth season. It includes 17 private and public high schools from St. Louis, St. Charles and Jefferson Counties. By Tally Portnoi, Mary Institute St. Louis Country Day School Do you ever get mixed up in your friends’ crazy schemes? Well Jean Francoise Millet sure did! In Holt High School’s production of "Is He Dead?," Millet’s friends convince him to fake his own death in order to get his paintings to sell. "Is He Dead?" follows the story of Millet, a struggling artist who cannot sell a painting to save his life. When his friends and loved ones find themselves in deep debt, Millet needs to find a way to help them. After realizing that most artists only get recognized after their deaths, Millet’s friends decide it’s about time Millet falls tragically ill. Millet then dresses up as his own sister, Daisy, and capitalizes on his skyrocketing popularity …

Holt journeyed to MICDS this weekend to compete in an 18-team invitational tournament and took third place with four wrestlers in the finals.
Less than a month ahead of district competition, Holt’s wrestling squad traveled to MICDS this weekend to compete in the 45th annual Eric Lewis Invitational Tournament. Holt’s progress as it prepares for district and state championships appears on track as evidenced by the team’s jockeying for first place against first-place finisher Whitfield throughout the weekend. Holt finished in third place behind Whitfield and runner-up, Rockwood Summit. The Indians placed four wrestlers in the finals of the event with juniors Gaige Dunnerman (171) and Justin Scott (112) joining freshman Lawton Benna (103) and sophomore Clayton Ream (125) in wrestling for championship trophies. Team is striving for excellence.
Competition is in full swing for a youthful Holt wrestling squad hoping to maintain the school’s strong tradition of excellence in the sport. After graduating several key seniors last year the team is taking this season one match at a time. The Indians are building experience while also looking for solid performances from state qualifiers Clayton Ream (sophomore) and Brett Beckmann (senior). Holt has a 2-2 record in at dual meets this season with wins over Francis Howell North and Troy. The Indians took seventh place at the 16-team Ron Sauer Invitational in early December at Fox. A weaker than hoped for showing at the Toshiba-KCI tournament in Kansas City exposed the squad’s youthfulness but also offered an opportunity to grow through …
