It wasn’t just a look backward at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s many accomplishments and his wisdom. It was a celebration and a call to action. “We remember him saying, ‘An injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ We remember,” said keynote speaker William Jenkins. “It is very important that we remember, the older people start telling the younger people because the younger people think that life started when they were born,” said Jenkins, a speaker, author, retired teacher and civil rights leader. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have turned 82 on Sunday. King received the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 35, making him the youngest man to have received the award. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968 at his hotel in Memphis where he planned to lead a protest march to help the striking garbage workers. There are several events being held in St. Charles County to honor Dr. King and his life’s work. On Monday, Jan. 16, Wentzville area residents will come together to honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King. The 2012 program, Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day on Not a Day Off, begins at 7 p.m. at Wentzville Holt High School. This special, community-wide celebration will feature keynote speaker William Jenkins and a performance by the Rhema Dance Ministry. Wentzville’s Mayor Paul Lambi is assisting with the promotion and planning of the event. Candidate from Florida will take over department in January.
The city of Wentzville has hired a new chief of police. Lisa Harrison, a Missouri native who currently serves in the Boynton Beach, FL police department, will join the department on Jan. 3. Chief Robert Noonan retired in October after leading the department for years. More than 70 law enforcement officers from the Wentzville department, the state and nation submitted resumes over the course of the search for Noonan’s replacement. According to Mayor Paul Lambi, the competition was tough, especially when the field was narrowed down to the final 10 contenders. New equipment creates a handicapped accessible playground.
It was a beautiful afternoon to spend in the park. The city of Wentzville celebrated the official reopening of Memorial Park Tuesday with a ribbon cutting. Mayor Paul Lambi honored Henry Staley, calling him instrumental in aiding the city's efforts to get grand funding for the new equipment. The event was attended by Kevin McHugh, Missouri Department of Natural Resources; Chris Buckland, MoDOT; Alderman Rick Stokes; Parks and Recreation Director Mary Jo Dessieux and several city employees. Members of the Wentzville Chamber of Commerce also attended the ribbon cutting. Memorial Park was purchased for $2,250 in 1968 with monies awarded by the Land and Water Conservation Fund, over the years the park increased in size and several amenities …

Elementary schools across the district honored veterans.
Elementary schools in the Wentzville R-IV School District held Veteran's Day celebrations this week to salute the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Boone Trail, Crossroads, Discovery Ridge, Duello, Green Tree, Heritage, Lakeview, Prairie View, and Peine Ridge Elementary all invited veterans to their special activities scheduled in honor of the holiday. Veterans were treated to breakfasts, student performances, slide shows honoring past and present members of the military and special guest speakers. Filing for the April 2012 election begins Dec. 13.
The Wentzville Board of Aldermen approved the filing dates for the April 2012 municipal election. The board approved the dates at its meeting Wednesday. The municipal election will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. Three Board of Aldermen seats and the mayor's office will be up for election. The offices up for election are currently held by: Tow has already announced his plans to file for the mayor's position. Interested candidates may file any time between Dec. 13 and Jan. 17 at Wentzville City Hall. Filing will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
