A trio consisting of a mother, daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend were arrested on drug charges after selling fake methamphetamine and real meth to an undercover officer in Wentzville Sept. 17 and Sept. 19. The mother and daughter were charged Sept. 20 with delivery or manufacture of an imitation controlled substance, distributing a controlled substance, and possessing chemicals with intent to produce a controlled substance: The boyfriend, Jordan Hase, 24, of Warrenton, was charged with distributing a controlled substance, and possessing chemicals with intent to produce a controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia with intent to sell or deliver. Highland Pharmaceuticals plans to offer Zephrex-D in St. Louis pharmacies by November. The new decongestant reportedly cannot be converted into meth and might not require a prescription.
In an effort to fight methamphetamine, some Missouri cities and counties, including St. Charles County, are passing ordinances requiring prescriptions to purchase pseudoephedrine products like Claritin-D and Allegra-D. Pseudoephedrine is a key meth-making ingredient, and it can be extracted from popular allergy medications. Now, a new decongestant set for sale in St. Louis area pharmacies in November is touted as meth-resistant and is gaining support from area drug agents. Zephrex-D, manufactured by Maryland Heights-based Highland Pharmaceuticals, is a new pseudoephedrine product that police and the drug's maker hope will stop meth cooks in their tracks. Dale A. Lenze, 53, and Kyle W. Green, 24, were indicted by a St. Charles grand jury Sept. 14 on first-degree arson, making methamphetamine and charges. Lenze also was indicted on a meth possession charge. St. Charles County Drug Task Force detectives said a meth lab exploded in Lenze’s barn Sept. 3 in the 2400 block of Branch Lane in St. Charles County southwest of Wentzville. A woman’s legs and feet were severely burned and the barn caught fire. Lenze told detectives he saw the fire in the upper portion of the barn and heard the woman “screaming in agonizing pain.” He also told detectives he allowed Green and the woman stay in living quarters and make meth in the barn in exchange for a portion of finished meth. A man is being charged with operating a methamphetamine lab in a Lake Saint Louis home. Robert R. Pollock, 54, is charged with manufacturing meth at a home in the 100 block of View Point Lane in Lake Saint Louis and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Three juveniles age 15 or under also live at the house. A St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department detective investigating a pseudoephedrine supplier found Pollock at the residence. According to a sheriff’s department report, the detective smelled a strong chemical odor coming from the garage, and Pollock acknowledged making meth at the residence. In a consent search, the detective found a lab in the garage and along with chemicals needed to cook meth, he said in the report.

Protesting funeral protests For St. Charles County, 2011 started with shouts of “USA” and choruses of “God Bless America” as a flag and sign-wielding St. Charles County and St. Louis area residents countered a demonstration by four Westboro Baptist Church members. The Topeka, KS-based church members were protesting outside the St. Charles County administrative building and the St. Charles City Hall. The protest was a response to a St. Charles County ordinance prohibiting picketing within 300 feet of funeral services one hour before and one hour after the ceremony. Paul J. Morrison, the O'Fallon man alleged to have shot his estranged wife's boyfriend on Christmas Eve morning was sentenced this morning. Morrison, 45, was originally charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. He pled guilty to second-degree assault, a Class C felony, on Sept. 19. Morrison also pled guilty Monday to a second charge of manufacturing an illegal substance (methamphetamine), a Class B felony. That charge stems from a Sept. 7 arrest. St. Charles Circuit Judge Nancy L. Schneider sentenced Morrison to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for the assault and 10 years for the drug charge. His sentences are to run concurrently. Morrison also was sentenced to 120 …

A new law requiring a prescription to purchase cold medicines containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine took effect in St. Charles County Tuesday. Anyone seeking to purchase the products must have a doctor's note to do so. The bill, passed by the St. Charles County Council on July 25, is aimed at curbing production of methamphetamine in St. Charles County. The compounds in the cold medications are staples for the manufacture of methamphetamine. The County Council passed the new requirement in a unanimous 7-0 vote. Council Chairman Joe Brazil, R-2nd District, noted at the time that in 2011, more than 100 meth labs had been discovered in St. Charles County, topping last year’s 92 in half the time.
