The Missouri Highway Patrol admitted releasing the names of concealed weapon permit holders to the Social Security Administration in what the government said was a law enforcement investigation. Do you agree?
The Missouri Highway Patrol admitted last week that it released the names of at least 163,000 concealed weapon permit holders to a federal agent investigating disability fraud, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and a variety of other media outlets. The news has people buzzing on every side of the gun control debate. Locally, Republican Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones of Eureka told the newspaper he was "very concerned that this may be a back-door attempt to create the Eric Holder gun registry." The concealed weapon registry is not open to the public and Missouri law says it's a misdemeanor to disclose information about the people who hold permits. Missouri State Sen. Doris A. Norman of Wentzville and Larkin C. Bennet of Old Monroe were the drivers of the two vehicles in Saturday's crash on Hwy. 79.
Doris A. Norman, 76, of Wentzville, was southbound on Hwy. 79 at T.R. Hughes Boulevard Saturday afternoon when she failed to yield to another vehicle. The front of Norman's 2012 Mazda 3 struck the rear of a 2012 Ford Escape driven by Larkin C. Bennet, 55, of Old Monroe. Bennet sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported by ambulance to SSM St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported. Bennet was wearing a safety belt. Norman, who was also wearing a safety belt, was not injured.

A 2002 GMC Yukon driven by Wentzville resident Luis A. Burzio, 46, was involved in a two-car accident on the Blanchette Bridge that sent a total of seven people to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Burzio was eastbound on I-70 over the bridge at 3:20 p.m. when a 2003 Chevy Tahoe driven by Ryan M. Merrifield, 18, of Maryland Heights changed lanes to the left. The left front of Merrifield's vehicle struck the front right of Burzio's. Both cars then struck the left concrete median barrier. The storm that brought damaging winds and hail to the Wentzville/Lake Saint Louis area had some unexpected consequences.
Saturday's storm damaged trees, signs and utility poles. The accompanying hail broke siding and screens and shattered windshields. But the storms also caused a one-car accident on Interstate 70. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2011 Chevy Equinox driven by Patricia C. Kilroy-Govero, 56, of Wentzville, was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 east of Highway 61 at 5:30 p.m. The severe weather conditions caused the car's airbags to deploy. The report did not specify if it was the hail or another aspect of the weather that caused the deployment. Betty W. Brown-Fagan was involved in a three-car accident on Jan. 19.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a Dardenne Prairie woman was injured just after 7 a.m. on Jan. 19 in a three-car accident near mile marker 226 on Interstate 70. Betty W. Brown-Fagan, 53, received minor injuries when a car struck the back of her Honda Odyssey, caused her to rear-end the Toyota in front of her. Brown-Fagan's Honday was extensively damaged in the collision. Brown-Fagan was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles. All drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Jamie L. Purtle, 32, was involved in the chain-reaction accident Tuesday afternoon.
Jamie L. Purtle was stopped for traffic in her Jeep Liberty in the northbound lanes of Interstate 270 in St. Louis County when traffic came to a standstill north of Highway 40 just after 4 p.m. Tuesday. A Ford F450 driven by Guy E. Ranstead, 68, of Ballwin was unable to stop in time and struck a Ford Escape which in turn rear-ended Purtle's vehicle. Purtle's car in turn struck the back of a Toyota Corolla driven by Robert J. Overman of O'Fallon. Overman's car then struck the back of a Chevy Trailblazer, which struck the back of a Toyota Camry. Purtle was not injured, but the driver of the Ford Escape was seriously injured and transported to the hospital according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report.
