Some areas saw as much as 6 inches of snow, sleet and frozen precipitation.
A Thursday forecast of snow, sleet and other freezing precipitation that largely followed through as predicted will see Missouri Department of Transportation and other municipal street crews working into Friday to get ready for the morning commute. That, along with a National Weather Service forecast that called for additional nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch, has led many school districts, including Parkway, Rockwood and Ft. Zumwalt among many others, to cancel classes Friday. Our news partners at FOX2 have a complete list of school closings. MoDOT Engineer Becky Allmeroth told Patch that the amount of snow was the part of the forecast that didn't follow as planned. Either way, MoDOT said beforehand that it …

The Missouri Department of Transportation needs to blast rock adjacent to the bridge as part of its renovation work. Expect delays. Here's details.
Updated with a new start date at 11:30 a.m. Friday. As if traversing the narrow Daniel Boone Bridge wasn't harrowing enough... Starting Feb. 18, the Missouri Department of Transportation will stop traffic across the bridge once a day in order to blast away nearby rocks as part of the department's reconstruction work on the span. The department had originally planned the shutdowns to start Monday, but wet conditions this week have slowed the work to prepare for the blasting originally scheduled to start Monday. Starting Feb. 18, the once-a-day bridge closures will take about 10 minutes and will occur at either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. every day, beginning Monday, for approximately one month. The department says traffic "will be slowed and …

The $13 million project is set to start in March and be finished by November.
A plan two years in the making to alleviate congestion at Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Interstate 70 should begin work as soon as next month. Thursday afternoon the Missouri Department of Transportation hosted an open house at St. Peters City Hall to introduce the public to plans to reconfigured the heavily-trafficked interchange. Plans for a new diverging diamond interchange were unveiled and explained to the public in attendance. "This is just another old interchange that needed to be updated to handle the volume of traffic it's trying to handle," said Russ Batzel, the public works service manager for St. Peters. Along with rebuilding the interchange, an additional lane will be added on westbound I-70. The estimated price tag for the …

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports on its St. Louis work zones for Jan. 31 to Feb. 6.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close all lanes and ramps of Interstate 64 in both directions downtown between Hampton Avenue and Forest Park Parkway at 8 p.m. Friday. Motorists attending this weekend’s downtown festivities are urged to use I-44, I-70 or I-55. While the interstate is closed, crews will remove the Taylor and Newstead bridges over I-64. The ramps from McCausland/Skinker, Hampton Avenue and Kingshighway Boulevard to eastbound I-64 will be closed during this time. In addition, the ramps from Pine Street, Jefferson Avenue, Market Avenue and Grant Road to westbound I-64 will be closed during this time. Crews will reopen the interstate and all ramps by 3 a.m. Monday. The detour for westbound I-64 will be to…

MoDOT will make an emergency repair to a broken grate on westbound I-70.
One lane on westbound Interstate 70 at the Blanchette Missouri River bridge will be closed from 2:30 p.m. through evening rush hour on Jan. 31 for emergency repairs to a broken drain grate, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. Motorists are advised to avoid westbound I-70 for evening rush and use Route 370 or Route 364 as alternate Missouri River crossings. The additional lane reduction will leave only two lanes open for westbound I-70. Both directions of I-70 are already reduced from five lanes in each direction down to three lanes in each direction and all traffic is using the eastbound bridge. Crews are completing a major rehabilitation project on the 1958 westbound Blanchette Bridge. The westbound bridge closed in …
