Lake Saint Louis Municipal Election: Submit Your Questions for Candidates

Patch will send questionnaires to the candidates running in the April municipal election. What questions should we include?

As we approach this April's election, Patch will send each candidate a questionnaire to help empower voters to cast their ballots for the candidates they believe in. And we would like to include all of you in the process.  Lake Saint Louis will be electing a mayor and three aldermen: What questions do you have for the candidates? Do you have a question about a particular issue? Or would you like to know the candidates' viewpoints on a more general question for the whole city?  Please share your questions in the comments section at the bottom of this article. We'll include as many as we can in our candidate questionnaire. We ask that you please ask questions that are on point and deal with the issues—this is not a forum for personal attacks…

Pritchett Investigating Possibility of Recount

Jeremy Pritchett lost the Ward 2 alderman race to Sonya Shryock by a margin of ten votes.

When the results of Tuesday's municipal election were announced, Jeremy Pritchett found out that he'd lost to his Ward 2 rival Sonya Shryock by a mere 10 votes. Pritchett told Patch that he’s in the process of finding out if he’ll ask for a recount. Recounts are permitted by election law if the difference between the winning candidate and the second-place candidate is less than 1 percent. He said Election Authority Director Rich Chrismer told him Wednesday it could cost him up to $2,500 for a recount. “That’s more than I spent on my entire campaign. I only spent $800,” Pritchett said. “They said they had to pay to have election judges come in and count ballots, so I’m in a holding pattern,” he said. He said if he has to pay for the recount…

April Election

City Voters to Decide on Four Year Terms

For mayor, board of aldermen.

In addition to choosing candidates in the Tuesday, April 5 municipal election, voters will also be asked to choose how long officials should stay in office. If approved, the change would impact the 2012 election cycle. The Wentzville Board of Aldermen voted in January to ask voters for longer terms in office. The measure passed with a vote of 6-0.  The ordinance asks voters on the April ballot if the terms of Wentzville mayor and aldermen should be lengthened from two years to four year terms. Elections would be staggered, so that the entire board would not be up for election in the same cycle. The board began discussing the issue at a retreat and then again at a work session in December. Alderwoman Cheryl Kross, Ward 1, said the longer …

Update: Several File for Judge, Ward Two Positions

Filing for Wentzville municipal election closed Tuesday.

Filing for municipal office closed Tuesday. As soon at the clock struck 5 p.m. at Wentzville City Hall, the city drew lots for ballot position. All names were put in a box, shaken and drawn out by City Clerk Vi Skillman. As names were drawn, they were placed on the ballot in their race. Here are the candidates, in the order they will appear on the ballot. Wentzville's provisions do not require that the municipal judge be a city resident. Carter, the current city judge, has been in the news recently for a 2009 arrest. Carter, who also filed to run for municipal judge in St. Peters, announced Wednesday afternoon via his Twitter feed, @vote4carter, that he has withdrawn from the St. Peters' race.  The Director of Elections ruled that one …

Wentzville Voters to Decide on Longer Terms for City Officials

Four-year terms for mayor, aldermen will be on April ballot.

The Wentzville Board of Aldermen voted Wednesday to ask voters for longer terms in office. The measure passed with a vote of 6-0.  The ordinance asks voters on the April ballot if the terms of Wentzville mayor and aldermen should be lengthened from two years to four year terms. The deadline for putting items on the April municipal ballot is Jan. 26. In order to put the question to the voters this spring, the bill had to have its first, second and final reading at Wednesday's meeting. Elections would be staggered, so that the entire board would not be up for election in the same cycle. The board began discussing the issue at a retreat and then again at a work session in December. Alderwoman Cheryl Kross, Ward 1, said the longer terms would …
