Lake Saint Louis and Wentzville residents who were looking forward to a Menards close to home will have to travel to St. Peters to shop this spring. As Patch previously reported, a developer with a contract on a piece of property south of Highway N announced plans in March 2012 to build a Menards home improvement store. Menards is a national chain that began moving into the St. Louis area last spring. The actual store would have been located in O'Fallon, but outlots would have been in the the City of Lake Saint Louis. Lake Saint Louis would also maintain Orf Road and Old Highway N, roads that would service the retail development. New business construction is booming in Wentzville.
Construction workers have been taking advantage of our recent mild fall weather in Wentzville, and new business projects are in all stages of development—from recent groundbreaking to near completion. Panda Express, just to the south of Applebee's on Wentzville Parkway, hopes to open before Christmas, Drew Bextermueller of THF Realty told Patch. The restaurant may possibly open as soon as the week of Dec. 17. By August 31, the number of permits had surpassed the number for the entire year of 2011.
(The following press release was issued by the City of Wentzville.) According to records maintained by Wentzville’s Department of Community Development, new residential development in Wentzville is beginning to increase again. By August 31 of this year, the city had issued a combined total of 227 permits for single and multi-family residential development—207 for single-family and 20 for multi-family. In 2011, the total number of single and multi-family residential permits issued for the year was 218. Wentzville’s August 2012 totals pushed the city into the lead for residential development in St. Charles County. The board of aldermen will hold a public hearing and have a reading of a conditional use permit for the Chinese restaurant.
Wentzville's Planning and Zoning Commission gave their approval for a conditional use permit and site plan for a Panda Express on Wentzville Parkway at their May 3 meeting. Now it's up to the Board of Aldermen to consider the request. A public hearing at the May 9 meeting will give residents a chance to speak up about the proposed new Wentzville location, between Applebee's and White Castle in the Wentzville Crossroads Marketplace. Plans for the restaurant include a drive-through. According to the Panda Express website, the nearest Panda Express locations currently are at Mid Rivers Mall in St. Peters, Chesterfield Commons and St. Louis Mills in Hazelwood.
