Was it just a coincidence that the puppy on the rescue site was being fostered by friends?
(After the tragic loss of another pet, I started looking at dog rescue and adoption sites. My husband is fond of Aussies and Border Collies, so I looked up St. Louis Aussie Rescue. One pup jumped off the screen and into my heart. Imagine my surprise when just a few days later, the same pictures popped up on the Facebook page of a friend, Patch freelance photographer David Becker. His family was fostering the puppy, named Annabelle, and the rest is history. Here is Annabelle's side of the story.) What is your name? Annabelle, but my silly humans call me Anna, Annie, Annabee and Annie Fannie. How old are you? 4 months Are you a dog, cat, bird or fish? What breed? Dog. I've heard my people saying I'm an Aussie or an Australian Shepherd. …

The little dog who was rescued in traffic is still facing problems.
The little dog who was rescued by good Samaritans on a busy Lake Saint Louis street in freezing weather is now in the hands of someone who is trying to find him a good home. That search may be made more difficult unless someone is willing to get Toby the vet care he desperately needs. Lake Saint Louis contributor Anita Branson did not give up on the little Shih Tzu after her story about his rescue was published in Lake Saint Louis Patch Tuesday morning. Branson was concerned because the story did not have the happy ending she had hoped for, and she was worried about the little dog's fate. "The couple who rescued him from traffic, Ken and Diane Beaty, found out that he was microchipped and were able to get the name of the original breeder. …

The little dog who was down on his luck met the right person at the right time.
On Wednesday, Dec. 15, Lake Saint Louis experienced a freezing rain that quickly made everything slick and covered with a layer of ice. Out in the harsh weather was a little black and white dog with a bad eye, weighing maybe seven pounds. He was in dire need of someone to swoop in and save him. Driving down Lake Saint Louis Boulevard near the fire station, Ken and Diane Beaty were headed towards their Lake Saint Louis home. They noticed cars stopping in the road ahead of them. And then they saw him. "I don't know why I did it" said Diane. As her husband stopped the truck, Diane jumped out, stopped the on-coming traffic and scooped the bedraggled dog protectively into her arms. As soon as they got him to their home, the dog's angel quickly …

Make pet care easier for the animal lover.
It may not seem like you're buying gifts for an animal lover when the presents are for the pets, but selections like these can be enjoyed by our furry friends while making their care more convenient. Are your cockatiel's claws too sharp? Is Rex getting too big to share the bed? Get a gift for a friend, and their friends too! Have you ever been out late and missed feeding the dog? It's no problem when you have automatic feeders and water fountains. Pick up a basic water dispenser for $7.49 from PetLand, or an electronic one from Walmart for $37. Walmart also offers a portion-control feeder for $58, so you can make sure your pet always has something to eat, without being overfed. I love to let my cats sleep with me, but every time I …
