The event's top fundraising team, the St. Charles City Police Department, brought in $5,753.
A brisk wind and a bright blue sky greeted participants to the 2013 Polar Plunge at Lake Sainte Louise Saturday. The fundraiser is one of 14 Polar Plunges held across Missouri to benefit Missouri Special Olympics. The event started with a parade around the Lake Saint Louis Community Association grounds to show off the 335 participants and their colorful, creative and often crazy costumes, which included movie characters, superheroes, Disney princesses and a man riding a duck. The first heat featured Lake Saint Louis Alderman Kathy Schweikert as a mermaid and her dog Heidi as a shark. Local police forces fought it out for top fundraising honors. The St. Charles City Police Department, under Team Captain Jason Chapple, raised $5,753. The …

The Lake Saint Louis Community Association hosted 462 plungers for the fundraising event.
The morning of Sat., Feb. 4 dawned gloomy and gray, but spirits were high at the Polar Plunge on the banks of Lake Sainte Louise. The Community Association hosts the plunge, which raises funds for the Missouri Special Olympics (SOMO). Plungers were treated to lunch afterwards in a big tent on the C.A. parking lot, where a raffle and silent auction also added to the fundraising effort. Many of the plungers participate in teams to raise money, dressed in a variety of creative, colorful and hilarious costumes to compete for the coveted "Golden Plunger" award. The following awards were given for fundraising and costuming: Top Individual 1st Place: Jeff Chapple, $2530 Top Individual 2nd Place: John Hihn, $2155 Top Individual 3rd Place: Jeff …

You've had your first cup of coffee; now relax with the second and find out what's up for the day in Lake Saint Louis.
Good morning, Lake Saint Louis! Have you ever thought of purchasing a franchise and starting your own business? Patch staffer Angie Atkinson posted a story this morning with some advice to get your started. We're going to try to post something about small business, whether it's a how-to piece or a profile of a local business, every Monday. In the same theme of making money, the Polar Plunge raises funds for Missouri Special Olympics. Yours truly tromped into Lake Sainte Louise with about 500 other people on Saturday to help that cause. I'm working today to put together a little first-person video to give you all a chance to experience this fun event without even getting your feet wet! Did you see that we had a Holt athlete nominated for St…

You've had your first cup of coffee; now relax with the second and find out what's up for the day in Lake Saint Louis.
Good morning, Lake Saint Louis! Interesting day yesterday. I got a call from Wentzville Patch editor Brian Feldt. He was driving on Hwy. 40 through Lake Saint Louis when he noticed several police cars and vans, right at the place where the lake goes under the highway. I jumped in the truck and headed out there. The vans parked on the south service road were animal control vans. Two patrol cars were on the north service road. Check back later today for the full story. I spend a lovely two hours in the afternoon talking to Ralph and Rose Barrale. They graciously invited me to their home and I was swept away by the stories they shared. Next week, look for a profile about them and their campaign for veteran recognition. This is another busy …

Registration is now open for the 2012 Polar Plunge, which is held at the Community Association clubhouse. Participants can register online and use a secure system to create a personal fundraising page where donations from friends and family are tallied.
