Luetkemeyer: Replace Sequester With Responsible Spending and Cuts

Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer offers opinions on issues affecting the residents of the 3rd District.

(Following is the weekly newsletter from State Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-St. Elizabeth, MO. The opinions expressed in the column are those of Rep. Luetkemeyer and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Wentzville Patch. —Ed.) The president and the Senate have had months to show how they plan to replace the devastating, across-the-board cuts in the president’s sequester with responsible spending and reforms. They have failed, and on March 1 the president’s $85 billion worth of sequester cuts that affect our national defense and domestic programs go into effect. There is no doubt that the sequester was the president’s idea and I, along with my Republican colleagues in the House, have twice voted to replace sequestration in the last …

Congressman: Fight Over Debt Ceiling Extension Will Be Nasty

Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer told the Greater St. Charles County Chamber that Republicans won't blink in requiring spending cuts in exchange for extending the debt limit.

During a visit to St. Charles County Tuesday, U.S. Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth) predicted a "nasty" fight between conservatives and the President over spending cuts and extending the nation's debt ceiling in the weeks ahead.  Luetkemeyer's visit marked the first time he's been in St. Charles County since he was sworn in on Jan. 3.  Through redistricting, Luetkemeyer, a Miller County Republican, now represents St. Charles County for the first time. This is his third term in Congress; he formerly represented District 9, which used to include a wide swath of Mid-Missouri extending to the St. Charles County border.  Luetkemeyer spoke to Chamber members on Tuesday about the upcoming debate over spending cuts, the debt …

Rep. Luetkemeyer: Farmers Not Happy with Possible EPA Control

Rep. Luetkemeyer offers opinions on issues affecting the residents of the 9th District.

(Following is the weekly newsletter from State Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-St. Elizabeth, MO. The opinions expressed in the column are those of Rep. Luetkemeyer and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Wentzville Patch. —Ed.)  It was made quite clear to me during a recent visit to the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia that our farm communities are not happy with the flood of regulations that the current administration is trying to force down their throats. Whether I was visiting the hog pens or the cattle barns, folks were angry and wanted answers. One of the topics at the top of folks’ lists was the Guidance Document that the EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released in April, 2011, that is supposed to clarify protection of …

Rep. Luetkemeyer: Military Facing Budget Cuts Despite Increasing Threats

—Ed.) While it may be several months away, I wanted to make you aware that our country is headed toward a fiscal cliff that could have a devastating impact on our men and women in uniform, our economy and ultimately the security of our nation. You may have heard it referred to as sequestration in the media, and quite honestly, there is a lot at stake if Washington fails to act. The bottom line: if Washington fails to enact savings mandated by last year’s debt ceiling agreement, our fighting folks in uniform will see …
