Walmart and Sam's Club have announced a new commitment to hire veterans, to help part-time employees move into full-time jobs and to promote American manufacturing. Walmart U.S. President and CEO Bill Simon spoke at the National Retail Federation's annual show about a new initiative in both stores to hire veterans whe they come off active duty. Whitey Herzog will sign free autographs at the new Wentzville Sam’s Club on Friday, Nov. 2 from 2:30–4:30 p.m. Sam's Club Store Manager Steven Johnson told Patch that fans are welcome to bring anything that they'd like to have signed by the legendary Cardinals manager. The store is also planning to sell baseballs that can be signed. "All proceeds from the sales of the baseballs will go to charity," Johnson said. Whitey Herzog was manager of the St. Louis Cardinals from 1980-1990. He led the Redbirds to a World Series Championship in 1982, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.

The $3,700 sponsorship would have benefited the youth soccer program this fall.
The Wentzville Parks Board learned Monday night that a sponsorship offered by Sam's Club for the youth soccer program had to be declined. Recreation Superintendent Dottie Phillips explained that the sponsorship, which would have amounted to about $3,700, would have allowed the Sam's Club logo to appear on the back of the soccer shirts, on the trophies and banners on the fields. Sam's Club would also have provided "Soccer Mom" and "Soccer Dad" shirts for the parents. Sam's Club was particularly interested in the soccer program because it coincided with the store's opening, Phillips said. With an opening scheduled in just ten weeks, the work on Sam's Club is moving along.
The weather has cooperated, and work on the Wentzville Sam's Club has been progressing well. Sam's club officials told Patch that the store is looking at an October 30 opening, and the store has a temporary office in Wentzille where they are taking applications, holding interviews and issuing membership cards. Sam's Club employees are also selling memberships at the Wentzville Walmart store.

With a planned opening of October 30, the Wentzville Sam's Club has gone into high gear to fill 140 job openings at the new location. The office is located at 1126 W. Pearce, Suite 104. (The strip mall near Steak 'N Shake where Blockbuster Video is also located.) The office has computers for interested job-seekers to fill out applications. Interviews are also held at this office. Bobby Pleager, a hiring coordinator with Sam's club, said that they currently had many people at different points in the hiring process, but that many openings were still unfilled.
