Timberland loses to Ozark, 8-1, in the Class 4 state quarterfinals as the Wolves end their season at 19-10.
The Timberland baseball team accomplished quite a bit in 2011. The Wolves knocked off Rock Bridge, the state’s top-ranked team, en route to a district championship. The Wolves then beat Lebanon in Tuesday’s sectional to advance to Thursday evening’s Class 4 state quarterfinal against Ozark. Unfortunately for the Wolves, they ran into a red-hot Tigers team that won its 17th straight game with an 8-1 victory to advance to next week’s state semifinals in Springfield. “It wasn’t our day by any means,” Timberland coach Frank Masters said. “I don’t take anything away from Ozark—they’re a good ball club. It just wasn’t our day. When we hit the ball, they made every play. “We went through a phase where every little ball found a spot and we made …

Timberland senior David Masters, sophomore Shane Cooper and senior outfielder Devin Johnson have been the Wolves' key hitters.
The Timberland and Holt baseball teams renewed their rivalry on Thursday at Timberland, and the Wolves came away with a key 6-5 win over Holt. Because of rainouts, the Gateway Athletic Conference South schedule has been a bit slow to play out. Still, the victory lifted Timberland (11-5) to a 3-1 record, which helped the Wolves keep pace with Francis Howell Central (2-0) and Francis Howell (3-0). Meanwhile, Holt, though 9-5 overall, dropped to 0-2 in the GAC South. It was a bounce back performance for coach Frank Masters’ Wolves as they had dropped two consecutive games following a seven-game winning streak. That winning streak was capped with dominant wins over Webster Groves, 16-6, and a 15-5 victory over Troy on April 15. The two losses …
