On Tuesday and Wednesday evening, the District's Teachers of the Year and their families received a free dinner and VIP service at Chick-Fil-A.
James Bennett, the owner/manager of Wentzville's Chick-Fil-A restaurant, wanted to do something special for teachers. So he contacted Matt Deichmann, the director of community relations at Wentzville School District, with idea to give a free dinner to a teacher each month. Deichmann had a better idea. The district had just announced the Teacher of the Year from each building, why not do something for ALL of them? Not only did Bennett agree, he ran with the idea. So on Tuesday and Wednesday night, the teachers of the year were treated, not only to a free dinner, but a free dinner for them and their families. They were also given the red-carpet treatment, with dinner reservations, balloons and (what else?) a red carpet. The V.I.P. treatment …

Gorton teaches 4th grade at Duello Elementary School.

Building teachers of the year will compete to be the 2012 Wentzville R-IV School District teacher of the year.
All teachers are award worthy, but some get a little extra recognition. The schools in Wentzville School District have each chosen their teacher of the year. Secretary at Discovery Ridge Elementary honored at awards banquet.
Kathy DeLaquil has been named Support Staff Employee of the Year. DeLaquil is a division secretary at Wentzville School District's Discovery Ridge Elementary School. The district held its “Distinction in Performance” Awards Banquet at Timberland High School on May 18. There, the district’s Teachers of the Year, Support Staff employees of the Year, 20 and 30-year employees and retirees were acknowledged and honored. Performing at the awards banquet were the Wentzville Middle School Choir, directed by Christina Wilson-Smith, as well as two talented Timberland pianists, junior Adam Marroquin and senior Ashley Lewis. The Peine Ridge teacher has her own formula for teaching kids to love learning.
Ashley Barton knew her destiny at an early age. She told her grandfather that she would be a teacher when she was just in the third grade. But her early inclination didn't mean she didn't explore other options. Five different majors caught her attention as a freshman at The University of Missouri. But Barton found her way back to her first love of education and has not looked back since. Teaching at Peine Ridge Elementary School since it opened in 2006, Barton was named 2011 teacher of the year last November and then teacher of the year for the entire Wentzville R-IV School District, which includes 16 schools. “I was shocked,” she said. “There are so many great teachers in our district that it was such a big honor.” According to the …
