The Rev. Caleb Butler previously held the same position at O'Fallon Christian Church and also worked in the Christian music industry.
Rev. Caleb Butler’s first day as the new worship minister at Wentzville Christian Church was Sept. 12, but his debut before the congregation was during the worship service on Sept. 18, just a week ago. "It went real smooth," Butler said. "The former worship minister, Dale Keys, was still here, so we kind of co-led, with him singing some harmony, and then he led a song and I sang some harmony. It was a good transition. The band jumped in and welcomed me very quickly and very smoothly." Senior minister the Rev. Kendall Bopp said everything went great. "His role is to create the whole worship experience, in order to do the best that we can do to make a connection with the people who are out there," Bopp said. Bopp expects a harmonious …

Thomas and Sharon Rudebeck will perform at 6 p.m. today at Wentzville Christian Church.
For Thomas and Sharon Rudebeck of Foristell, the art of Christian illusion means capturing the audience members' attention spectacularly so they can wow them spiritually. "It is the message through the performance—it’s geared toward God, and that’s it," Thomas Rudebeck said. "It’s as solid as it comes, and it comes from the gospel." The Rudebecks, who call themselves Denial 3, will perform at 6 p.m. today at Wentzville Christian Church, 1507 Highway Z. The show features top-notch illusion—people and objects disappear and reappear, laws of nature are seemingly defied—with the added element of spreading the word about Christianity. For example, after 75 to 80 fast-paced minutes, they will create the illusion of snow inside the sanctuary, …

The play will be held June 10 at Wentzville Christian Chuirch.
Wentzville Christian Church’s upcoming youth production of Beauty and the Beast Jr., like all the previous plays the church has produced, will combine entertainment with a chance to show the public what the church has to offer. "It still falls under outreach, it’s just for a different age group," said church member Tammy Rodenbaugh, who is coordinating the play. The play, which has "Jr." added to it because it is shorter with less dialogue and fewer songs than the original stage show, also has messages that are appropriate for a church setting. "There are really good lessons and values--stay true to yourself, acceptance of others and not being judgmental," Rodenbaugh said. "There are some really nice lines between Belle and the Beast that …

The show is top quality entertainment, but also serves as outreach for the church.
Wentzville Christian Church will be alive with The Sound of Music next weekend, and director Tammy Rodenbaugh believes the popular musical offers a perfect blend of secular and religious themes. "There needs to be some kind of message in there," she said. Rodenbaugh, a member of Wentzville Christian, has also directed Annie, Godspell, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers as church productions. She has found that the shows, performed free for the community, serve as outreach too. "We have had people come back to the church–cast members looking for a church home, and some who came back have been audience members," she said. The show will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at …

'You need to understand who your audience is and what the purpose of each piece is.'
The increased popularity of social media – from Web sites to Facebook and Twitter – has caused churches to look at how these forms of communication can be used to get the message out. "The big issue in any of it is, if you’re going use it, you need to understand who your audience is and what the purpose of each piece is," said Rev. Mark Ford of River Oaks Church in Wentzville. "For instance, I don’t know that we do this as well as I’d like, but we (have) determined that our Web site would be like the billboard to the community. It is not designed for our church family. It is designed (for) someone out there looking to potentially try a church." Wentzville Christian Church has had a Facebook presence for six to eight weeks. "As a staff, we …
