With road conditions rapidly deteriorating as snow and sleet continue to fall, officials from the City of Wentzville closed city offices at 11 a.m. today. The city is also asking residents to move their cars off city streets to allow road crews easier access. “We made this decision for the safety of City employees and residents,” said Wentzville Mayor Nick Guccione. “We have City snowplow crews working on City streets, but for their own safety we suggest everyone stay off the roads if at all possible and allow our snowplow crews to work on keeping up with this storm as it progresses,” said Guccione. It's one of those moments that makes you love your job. During Wednesday night's meeting of the Wentzville Board of Aldermen, the aldermen voted to change the name of the the last remaining piece of Interstate 70's South Service Road to Veterans Memorial Parkway. According to city staff, the process is also being undertaken for sections of South Service Road in unincorporated St. Charles County and the City of Foristell. Petree Powell, also known as Petree Eastman, was once University City's assistant city administrator.
Petree Powell assumed the duties of Wentzville’s top financial position as Interim Director of Finance on Thursday, Jan. 10. Powell, who also is known as Petree Eastman, served as University City's assistant city manager from April 2007-June 2010. Her last position was as the city administrator in Crestwood. She left the position in March 2012. The Wentzville position became vacant at the end of 2012 when that city's Director of Finance Dennis Walsh officially retired. Both Wentzville and Lake Saint Louis will elect three aldermen, and Lake Saint Louis will elect a mayor. The Wentzville School Board will fill two seats.

According to records maintained by Wentzville’s Department of Community Development, new residential development in Wentzville is beginning to increase again. By August 31 of this year, the city had issued a combined total of 227 permits for single and multi-family residential development—207 for single-family and 20 for multi-family. In 2011, the total number of single and multi-family residential permits issued for the year was 218. Wentzville’s August 2012 totals pushed the city into the lead for residential development in St. Charles County. The city worked through Interim City Management, LLC to place George R. Kolb in the position.
The City of Wentzville has issued a press release that George R. Kolb will serve as the city's Interim City Manager as part of a contract the city approved with Interim Public Management, LLC. Kolb has 40 years of city management experience, a Masters of Public Administration degree and is a credentialed City Manager. The press release states that Kolb should be assuming his duties with the City of Wentzville on Sept. 5. According to the agreement with IPM, the city will pay $3,100 per week plus expenses, provide a city vehicle for business use and pay lodging for Kolb. Proposition T, a renewal of a half-cent sales tax, was approved by 65 percent of voters in the Aug. 7 election.

According to Mayor Nick Guccione and the city’s Interim Public Works Director, Douglas Lee, voter approval of Wentzville’s Proposition T on Tuesday meant the city should be able to keep up with important road development needs. Had Proposition T failed, it would have been a far different story. “If voters hadn’t approved Prop T,” said Lee “we would have had to limit current street maintenance programs and we would have been unable to proceed with new roadway construction.” Proposition T extended the city’s current Transportation Sales Tax (TST) rate for another 20 years, after the current TST expires on December 31, 2014.
