Fire Chief Resigns; Fire Inspector Laid Off; Fire Marshall Put On Leave

The board of directors of the Wentzville Fire Protection District declined to comment on the rash of staff departures.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported today that four senior employees of the Wentzville Fire Protection District have either resigned, been laid off or been terminated.

Three of the officers, Fire Chief Randy Bornhop, Assistant Chief Robb Watkins and Fire Marshall Joseph Heitkamp had been put on leave for the past three months. 

Bornhop has resigned, Watkins has been terminated, and Heitkamp was placed on unpaid indefinite leave, the Post reported.

Additionally, Fire Inspector Chris Newbold was laid off. 

According to the post, Fire Board members have declined comment.
