Police: Woman Stole, Forged Check From Friend

A Warrenton woman faces a charge that she stole a friend’s check, forged it and cashed it at the Wentzville Walmart.

Leigh Ann Erickson, 24, of the 600 block of Lincoln in Warrenton, was charged in St. Charles County Circuit Court Tuesday with forgery.

A woman told Wentzville Police that someone cashed a check for $114.11 at the Walmart in Wentzville at about 3 p.m. May 21. The woman said she didn’t complete the check, and when she checked her checkbook, she found someone had removed the check and the carbon copy.

Police reviewed surveillance videos at Walmart, and the woman identified Erickson cashing the check. The woman told police she goes to the park or the pool with her almost every Saturday.

Erickson told police that the woman gave her a blank check because she had borrowed $40. She said she filled the check out for more than $40, but her boyfriend had agreed to pay the woman back. Erickson could not explain why the woman had not filled out the check.Erickson is being held in St. Charles County jail.

Bail was set at $20,000, cash only.
